Christopher Marsitto is our roast master extraordinaire! We asked him to give us a “State of the Union” on coffee, tea and everything in between!
What is your favorite part of your role at CULT?
I would say that my favorite part of my role is being able to create and taste new products and blends. There is a satisfaction knowing that something you created is being enjoyed by many. I also enjoy being able to teach people about coffee and sharing my passion for coffee. It is amazing to be able to convey to people how a small little coffee bean started and the journey it makes and the people it touches.
Why has the coffee industry boomed so much in recent years?
I believe the recent boom of great coffee has to do a lot with the foodie movement and the desire for craft products. Many people are tired of the same large chain restaurant/coffee houses and are looking for the hip new concepts that are emerging. This I believe goes for coffee houses as well as restaurants. I do also think that with the foodie movement people are demanding a superior product and aren’t afraid to pay a little extra for it. Restaurants are now carrying the same high caliber great coffee’s that you can find at a great coffee house.
What makes CULT different from other coffee roasters?
CULT Coffee Roaster not only makes great coffee but they fill many different beverage areas. There is not many roasters that can say they do coffee, tea, botanical, nitro coffee and coffee concentrate. I think that the beverage lineup we have and continually grow can fill so many areas for the operator and consumer. Our capabilities and partners make us an extremely well rounded craft company.
What are some trends you see on the horizon?
Coffee trends are hard to wrap your arms around. There is always a push for something just a little different while maintaining the nuances of coffee. I think we will still see a growing trend of fantastic single origin coffees and desire to keep improving. With that I think there will be a continued pursuit for single cup brewing methods or brewers that will produce a fantastic cup with ease and without waste.
